Learn More About Auditory-Verbal Therapy or Teletherapy
Do you have a child with hearing loss? Are you looking for a certified Auditory Verbal Therapist (AVT)? Distance from a certified specialist is no longer a challenge with Teletherapy facilitated by Language Launchers.
What is AVT?
Auditory Verbal Therapy is a highly specialized habilitative option for families with young children with hearing impairment, who choose to maximize residual or implanted hearing in developing spoken language skills. When parents implement strategies into the daily interactions with their kids, the child’s auditory learning potential for natural language can be reached.
What is LSLS?
LSLS stands for Listening and Spoken Language Specialist. Through an international certification exam, you can become either an auditory-verbal therapist or an auditory-verbal educator depending on the type of setting and previous degree you have. This certification has a minimum of three years of post-graduate training or mentoring organized through the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf.
About the Therapist
Pamela Talbot M.Ed., CCC-SLP, C.E.D, LSLS-AVT
Pamela is a certified Listening and Spoken Language Therapist (LSLS) with Auditory Verbal Therapist (AVT) designation. She is a certified Speech-Language Pathologist and Teacher of the Hearing Impaired. Pamela has been conducting professional and parent training at an international level for more than 25 years. Currently, she coordinates Teletherapy.
Sessions are typically 50 minutes once every week. Each one focuses on guiding the parents through daily routines and playful therapeutic activities to enhance the child’s auditory and language development. Since this therapy concentrates on parent-child interaction, no child is too young for it. The mom or dad becomes the baby’s primary educator as the therapist coaches the parent through the information and strategies.
Teletherapy and Adult Cochlear Implant Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation for adults post-cochlear-implant is also possible through teletherapy. Depending on the skill level of the patient, an adult family member, friend, or other assistant may be necessary to sit and offer support in his/her location.
